Wisdom teeth first appear in young adults between the ages of 15 to 25. Since we’ve graduated from earlier times, the shape of our mouths has become too small to accommodate all our original teeth. This is because our diets and food preparation methods changed to help us better process food before consumption, thereby reducing the need for strong jaws for chewing.
Wisdom teeth that are partially exposed are breeding grounds for germs and bacteria. It is very difficult to keep the area clean, possibly leading to reoccurring infections and destruction of nearby teeth. Also, tumors or cysts may grow on a trapped wisdom tooth. In most cases, the best option is to surgically extract the wisdom teeth.
At Carroll Dental Clinic, we are committed to making these surgery procedures as comfortable as possible for you. We even can relax you with Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas).
